How do I care for my wood floor?
- Sweep, vacuum or dust mop at least once a week, or as necessary.
- Wipe up spills immediately.
- Place mats at outside and inside doorways, high traffic pathways, near sinks and other work stations.
- Apply soft pads to your furniture’s feet (these can be purchased HERE).
- Maintain a consistent humidity (as close to 45-50% as possible) to avoid stressing the floor.
- The Swiffer with dry paper is okay, but the Swiffer Wet Jet and wet paper unit will leave a haze on the floor.
What should I avoid?
- Never use wax products.
- If high heels are worn, be sure the tips of the heels are in good condition ro the floor could be damaged.
- Don’t use Endust, Murphy’s Oil Soap, Orange Glow, Pledge, Old English or Lemon Oil. They can dull today’s floor finishes.
- Don’t use vinegar and water. It can dull and etch your floor.
- Don’t let dirt or grit build up. They can act like sandpaper and dull the finish.
- Don’t damp mop wood floors. Too much water can cause floors to swell or warp.
- Don’t let pet’s claws go untrimmed.
- Avoid hard plastic casters in favor of soft plyurethane or rubber casters, or avoid casters altogether.
